For example, when a musician believes their song has to be played under the right conditions through correct hardware as they believe it requires those conditions when it does not or like indie game developers who design a game with a twist or edgy/emotional messages that doesn't challenge thought or creative process nor does it incite discussion but instead wants the player to acknowledge and accept whatever subjective opinion they push as an objective one and any artistic merit is presented in a way to the player as if it is more focused on wanting the player to be amazed and think highly of it as opposed to something interesting presented.
These aren't inherently terrible, but have the foul air surrounding them that can spoil the entertainment value.
Examples: stonetoss, tatsuya ishida, dobson, kannye west, life is strange, rick and morty, undertale, heavy rain, kojima etc
Or I suppose in layman's terminology: it thinks too highly of itself.
In the case of xkcd, I suppose he can sound opinionated and seem to continually present himself as a person of higher intelligence. I have to assume a strong, disliked following has to do something with it too.
At least, that's how I usually define it, not sure how that anon does.
