>>117110915The animation of OPM season 2 didn't take 5 years: Pre-production did. The actual anime began being produced, at BEST, a year before the anime began airing. And this includes writing scripts, storyboarding, animating, in-betweening, and everything like that.
On top of that, the changed studio meant they didn't have access to a variety of the animators that made OPM s1 look crazy.
Western animation is a lot more chill in that regard, and they tend to have a lot more time to produce these things- but they also adhere to normal human standards of work. Not that there's no abuse but they get things like breaks, decent work schedules and all of that.
On top of it, animators tend to be freelance- this means they can't really afford to be 'tied down' to a project and miss out on other opportunities.
