From announcement, Owl House was poised to be Disney’s new flagship cartoon, while Amphibia was just a show they were doing. Owl House got constant fanfare and press support despite its constant delays and internal issues while Amphibia was mostly ignored. Then due to the final fuck up, Amphibia was forced to air alone last summer instead of alongside Owl House as planned, which is when people who watched it realized that because Amphibia didn’t have the weight of being the flagship show, it nothing to prove and chose instead to be the story it wanted to be from the beginning with little meddling. It was a far more honest and grounded show that didn’t pretend it was profound or some piece of high art that’ll be remembered forever. This gave it the fresh X factor that the show still carries.
This was mostly ignored by Disney as they were still pimping out Owl House and when it finally released, Disney practically pretended Amphibia was never a thing again.
Amphibia fans don’t like Owl House because it‘s unfairly considered the gold standard for Disney despite falling short of everything it promised whereas Amphibia is considered silver or even bronze tier despite surpassing all expectations. It’s a case of perpetually being labeled the underdog despite being the true talent, and mostly because the lead of Owl House is banging Alex Hirsch
