Amity got Flanderized so fast. What's with this ADHD pacing and character progression? She was fine in the couple of episodes before Grom, even during it when she suddenly was given a crush but didn't sperg out all the time. Just fucking slow down, Dana. That felt so unearned. So now she no longer cares about being top student and competing? Now she's no longer haughty and proper? And it was unearned. She had her flaws excised between episodes, and the episode wasn't about her battling with her concerns about her image in the eyes of the school and her old friends vs wanting to do the right thing by her new friends. The whole point is that she just has a new personality that did not develop on-screen naturally and through conflict that can make a good episode. It's a massive waste of potential.

I see, so you just don't understand what I said as well as not understanding what good writing is. It is all unearned, because she was not struggling with conflict herself. We do not see her facing her flaws in a moral dilemma. If anything, this episode was Luz facing the conflict of wanting to stand up for her friend and her flaws of leaping into things without thinking, pushing her friends too hard and thinking shit works just like in her books and shows.

Yaknow, I can see ya'all anons points while watching it myself, but I personally dont think it feels too rushed? alot of shows do the "some progression happens behind the scenes" and amitys crush on luz is rather funny, i noticeably chuckled at her floundering a few times this episode.

Can this show finally do something different than Luz-Amity shipping and lying plots? I enjoyed the Luz-Amity stuff at the beginning but it completely derailed Amity's character and the whole plot. It used to be about a human in this mysterious world, now it's just lesbian harry potter.
And the lying plots. Why is every other episode about someone lying and/or challenging someone to something? It's always the same thing. God, these writers are such hacks. When Hirsch doing his Bill voice is the best thing in your show, then you did something wrong

Yeah, the monage jokes weren't even good. I liked the King joke in the second montage but the first one? Didn't work at all. It only showed Luz explaining montages and then them having the tea party. It didn't have any actual sport content to distract from the one absurd thing in it. If the absurd thing is the only thing then the joke falls flat

Having all of this happen in one season makes it feel rushed, you wouldn't even have to space the stories out across seasons or delay them for the future episodes, just releasing the season as it is spaced out farther e.g. between the first and second half of the episodes would've made everything feel more natural.

For example knowing Amity's initial appearances were written with the intent of just pairing her Luz immediately afterwards makes it feel rushed and forced, but if the last ~7 episodes were delayed as part of some pretend second season and released a couple of months later, it would feel more organic.

From the outside point of view Amity's the exact same character except she decided to stop picking on Williow (we know the reason why). Only the audience knows about her feelings on Luz.

I think the trick card this show often uses is how a lot of the rushed and bad changes lead to cute scenes. So since you find all of it cute, you convince yourself it’s not that bad despite obvious bad writing. I don’t like this show but even I agree Amity is adorable. Amity's characterization makes no sense for the most part. And her character evolution is even worse. She's like three different characters in the span of 3 consecutive episodes. There's no organic progression.

Because in that episode it was well done, and made sense with what was seen before from the character. There was already seeds to hint she was different in the golf episode. The Northwest Mansion mystery was 22 minutes completely dedicated into exploring her character, it wasn’t just Dipper doing some shit and Pacifica did a 360 in the last minutes and fell for him. And even after everything, it didn’t change her character completely. She was still a little snobby and pretentious, it’s just that her more negative aspects got downplayed hard.
Also, she and Dipper had a chemistry 100 times better than Luz and Amity to the point people wished the show was about them instead of Mabel.

Although her powers seem kind of simple now, she looks at an element, see's a symbol, and can copy that symbol and use that power.
And now she seems to be pretty fast and good at it.

In the beginning I kind of thought king might actually rise to power and become a mighty monster to fight, but not so much anymore.

What's the point of the show aside from lesbian?

Understanding Willow was a character introspection episode (for two characters, no less) almost too good for this show, and the Grom episode, even outside of the shipping fuel and sakuga dance, gave Luz a new vulnerability and introduced a huge plot mystery. It was literally one of the show's best episodes.

S2 could be solely comprised of episodes meant to go in between S1 episodes and it would be completely fine with me. So a couple more episodes of Luz with Eda before she goes off to Hexside, more episodes of her relationship with Amity before Grom, more episodes focused on fleshing out the Isles and the Emperor before the supposed "shit goes down" finale we should get next weeks etc, with the final intended watching order being e.g. S1E1>S1E2>S2E1>S1E3>S2E2 etc.

I'd rather watch these characters in a kinda cringy but fun kingdom hearts type of story than them just going to fucking school. I don't like that there's no sense of journey.

I wish this show was about Luz and Eda on the run from Emperor Bellows. You could have the house walk/fly to different isles from episode to episode, and different characters could join their group. The different kids could be running away from home for different reasons. You could have more fun standalone episodes, actual buildup for the plot heavy stuff, make things feel like there's more at stake.

I just want to like this show so bad, man. It has so many potentially cool things going for it... when I was a kid I would've loved shit like this, sort of spooky magical themed stuff with a macabre/cute aesthetic, island setting mixed with medieval spooky town stuff, an actual magic system with rules, a cool older lady character... there's so much here that should be so fucking good but its just not, man. I just wanted episodes dedicated to Amity actually facing a conflict over her haughtiness, her perfectionism, her need to be top student and keep up with the image her family expects of her. I wanted her to face a moral dilemma where she would have to choose between sacrificing a lot of what she's worked on over the years to help her friends and grow as a character, organically shedding her flaws and proving herself to Willow.

But fuck that. Instead we get all culpability and responsibility for her bullying retconned, Willow totally ok with her, and her deciding she's no longer going to be concerned about her image and be competitive completely. There should be actual episodes and on-screen conflict to develop a character, not just retconning things or changing her between episodes.

This show has been such a disappointment. What a waste.

The showrunners want to have their cake and eat it too by having the school setting and the Amity redemption and the queerbaiting.They're impatient so they rush through everything even though confirming Amity's crush should be a season 2 or 3 thing, while getting back into Willow's good graces should have taken a few episodes of actual character development instead of attempting to show that Amity did nothing wrong to begin with. Eda should not be constantly relegated to gag-filled b-plots. The pacing and handling of character dynamics and development is genuinely bad.

Pacing is the one argument I think holds some weight, but it's not like Dana has a guarantee of enough episodes to do everything she wants if she dedicates more time to everything. And every cartoon has shitty pacing so I don't really notice it that much.

Even if she had no idea the owl house would get renewed, there are other ways to do what she wanted to do. She just jumped to do everything, and because of this, a lot of things that could have been developed for season 2 are already done. Amphibia also only got one season and they did fine. Same with Tangled, big hero 6, etc.
Pacing is a problem in cartoons nowadays, but it has never been as big as in here. I have never seen a show changed their gears so fast.

The big part is you have her failing, at least a few times and then you get a Redemption Arc after things start getting patched up between them. That's what season 2 is for.

Season 1 Amity being utterly irrepressible douche towards everyone and being the foil and mocking Luz for her "hick magic" then we get the climax and while Amity has a powerful spell selection Luz has a more flexible innovative style that allows her to keep up.

Then lets say Amity pulls out something she's not supposed to have learned or underhanded and wins their confrontation.

Luz is beaten and returns to Owl House with Eda while Amity is cheered on but realizes she's been a shit. And so season 2 Redemption in that Amity makes amends and we get friendship, Later you can go with the other stuff.

Hell since this show gets so many episodes you can even split the Redemption to just Season One. Just have it not be incoherent and slapdash like they've done here.

I outright can't relate to ANY of the characters and not in a "they don't look like me" kind of way, the pace and lack of consistent development makes it feel like I'm watching a short highlight reel, not something I had a chance to get invested in.

When e.g. Willow speaks, I don't hear a person with a personality, opinions, needs, wants, motivations, fears, aspirations, etc I see an empty shell token of a character that's only there to do whatever Luz needs her to do so the premise of the episode can happen.

Meanwhile I have no problems getting invested in completely inhuman or even abstract characters, anthropomorphic animals and vegetables, a piece of paper, a rock monster that only speaks by saying radda, a bubblegum tyrant, a multidimensional flat projection on a room outside of time old man's dream manifestation etc.

Are there any complaints besides the show feeling a bit rushed? I've been enjoying all of it.
Characters are fun, the humor is pretty good, I'm interested in seeing where the mysteries go, and I like that they're pulling the romance trigger early instead of waiting for the finale like every other show that wants to have a lgb character.

Yeah like every single asshole says that. The show gave up on Eda teaching Luz magic by episode 5 and that's the entire fucking blurb the show sells itself on. If they were going with this premise Eda should've been a headmaster or something and Luz still a student but at a boarding school. The premise of this show is all over the place and the main love interest already went through a complete arc. Yes it's very fucking rushed.

There is literally and I mean literally no fucking way Lumity just proceeds without a hiccup, SOMETHING is going to get in between them so the kiss and relationship confirmation can be the last scene of the last episode.

Maybe it's for the best really, this show struggles with writing even the most basic plots, a relationship running throughout the show is something even highly skilled and experienced writers shy away from, and would deprive the show of the drama it needs to sustain itself.
