She is a magical princess from a fantasy world that needs to do certain amount of good deeds for the magical world to return to earth, she brainwashes a married couple into believing she is her daughter and sets into adventure with her magical companions.
So, much like Sailor moon Momo transforms every episode but instead of a dress she turns into a grown woman to complete some kind of task. Sometimes she becomes a police woman or a reporter to sneak into a place other times she becomes something more specific like a jewel thief or a singer.
I think most people know that anime as the one where the protagonist dies run over by a truck. Apparently the toy company that was paying for the anime decided to pull out and that was originally the ending of the show, but it turn out that the show became pretty popular so they where ask to continue it, so the next episode after she dies everything was inexplicably back to normal and never mentioned why she wasn't dead anymore and never touched the subject again.
