The few movies I do see in theaters are usually after they've been out a couple of weeks. I have a nice enough entertainment system to never subject myself to the "theater experience" again.

I like the theater experience. Watching it at home isn't nearly the same as watching it in a theater where the screen is bigger than your house and professional sound system. It's a bit of a crapshoot crowd wise, but the overall experience tends to make it worth it IMO.

I'm gonna be sad of theaters all go under.

when Trolls, Invisible Man, Scoob, etc. did $20 it was reasonable. Not great, mind you (I still pirated the ones I watched), but it puts the pricing at "more than 1 evening ticket, but generally less than 2". So if you watch them with one other person you're theoretically getting your money's worth, and if it's a whole family you're likely saving quite a bit compared to a night at the theater (especially when it comes to snack prices).
$30 is just Disney being greedy and refusing to accept that they threw away $200 million on this movie. You can easily take a family of 4 to a matinee show for that price in most states.
Plus unlike the other releases that allowed a purchase through iTunes, Amazon, VUDU, etc. which are services that require no monthly fee to use, this one is tied to your Disney+ subscription and you likely lose access if you ever drop your sub.

When they did the $20 rentals for Invisible Man and Birds of Prey it was fine because that was the only place you were going to watch it and plenty of people were getting it for a group of people.

Making it a rental ON THEIR STREAMING SERVICE just looks bad. If it was just normal VOD I don't think anyone would bat an eye.

When Insidious came out, we had an absolute dogshit camrip. It was great. The copy was so dark and low quality that the stinger jump scare at the beginning had us all just confused, because we couldn't even see the monster until the host rewound to figure out why were were supposed to be scared.

The MCU is more likely to go out with a whimper than a bang.
It’s main strength has been charismatic leads, making movies seem required watching for the next instalment, and being its own unstoppable juggernaut that you just had to be a part of.
At the moment they’ve got one movie about a dead near literal who in the pipeline, only a few of their original leads left to complement their new set of sapient planks of wood, and no Thanos equivalent on the horizon to build up to.
The wu flu has basically set them to square one. They’ve got to get a new crew together, build them up in the public eye, set up a new endgame and do all of this without making it look like a rehash.
I can see them managing to make some profitable individual movies, but I can’t see them going back to the glory days.

Disney should have downsized long before this in preparation for the inevitable downturn, but they were like an alcoholic wanting to clear out their stash before quitting.

Yeah, the Sui-Tang Romance version is the exception with the downer ending. It dates to the late 1600's(1675-1695).

One of the most popular retellings is a play from 1917 "Mulan Joins the Army(???? Mulan congjun)" which follows the the original good ending version from "Ballad of Mulan"

If Disney was actually trying to appeal to Chinese audiences(and not Xinnie the Pooh) they just faithfully adapt the play/Ballad version, since I've heard the reason they didn'y like the animated movie is that it wasn't more faithfull to the original source material.

Instead they've made movie inaccurate to the source material in completely different ways than the animated.

I honestly don't understand Disney's thought process with this movie.

the theater near me was usually ok, but i had to basically stop going to new movie weekends because it would be filled with idiots. fucking retards on their phones throughout the movie (>paying for a movie and then not watching it), people coughing and opening the loudest wrapper in existence in the quiet parts and i fucking dare anyone here to think of one time in a theater that they didn't have someone get up during the movie and walk in front of them or otherwise distract them during the movie.

Movie theaters have their niche for some things and i certainly enjoy going to them, but i dunno how the hell they're going to survive post corona besides backing from somewhere. Hollywood has already abandoned them by putting their newest releases on their own diluted streaming services anyways. Im not going to a movie theater this year so i can be coughed on by some retard who can't put a piece of cloth over his face for an hour and a half.
