They're able to do what they do on stage because that's a performance. Offstage, it's constant darkness, loneliness, suicidal tendencies, anxiety, drug abuse, and self doubt. It isn't obvious until the moment they completely self-destruct, like Robin Williams.
But I'm not arguing for Ellen's side, I'm surely not going to change your mind on her. It's not my intention. I'm just questioning the rationale behind this cancelling. For some people, normal human interaction is genuinely difficult. It's like getting mad at someone with developmental disorder for not being able to solve a simple math problem, or telling someone with depression to put on their big boy pants. With social media climate being as hypersensitive and unpredictable as it is, a simple twist in the narrative could easily turn Ellen's current accusers into insensitive, bullying "ableists."
