The problem with a Batgirls book is that you're going to have conflict with Birds of Prey. Also I'd be afraid that a Batgirls team book would simply mean that writers and editorial strip them of any sort of supporting cast or unique villains.

Based on recent events it’s pretty clear they don’t care much about pushing Babs as a BoP member anymore.

What supporting cast and unique villains, exactly? Not the ones belonging to Steph and Cass that the reboot erased, and not the ones belonging to Babs that writers never bother to use besides her brother and Oracle ad infinitum.
Anything worth the dread of losing has basically already been lost.

That's the point I'm trying to make. They'd just going to further isolate the characters. On top of that, they might isolate them within the Bat-franchise. While I don't necessarily believe they should be deeply entwined with whatever else is going on in Bat-titles at all times, I'd be concerned that they'd be reduced down to "that title and characters we pretend don't exist until we feel like fucking up their on-going." I'd also be pretty concerned that characterization would be reduced to "spastic retard, kung fu retard, and know-it-all thundercunt."

I'm not opposed to the concept, I just think it'd be one hell of a monkey's paw given the circumstances.

Black Canary worked, Starling worked, Tatsu worked, even Ivy worked. Babs somehow didn't work whenever she showed up, Ivy's betrayal didn't work despite the series making it clear that Ivy was only in it until her interest waned or something pissed her off and it was to be expected at some point, Starling's betrayal didn't work because readers actually liked the character and there was no setup or justification of the betrayal. Nu52 Birds of Prey wasn't classic BoP but it was good on its own and then after about 8 issues DC ran in like a retard with baseball bat screaming "I'm helping" and destroyed pretty much everything.

To be fair almost every DC book in the New 52 had that problem with editorial mandating and saying, "I'm HELPING!" then drove the creative teams off the books.

Yes, but BoP was one of their mid-card books at the time, it wasn't something like Voodoo or Mr. Terrific that was either DoA or hemorrhaging readers.

Most Nu52 output was pretty solid. Everything might have been a dumpster fire behind the scenes but it really felt like writers were putting in effort. Also add Johns' Aquaman to your list, Aquaman in general has had a surprisingly strong run these past 8 years.

Eh, I think the problem is less about the injury’s physical permanence and more about the writer’s intentions and the psychological implications. It *could* be easily reversed, but it wasn’t, because... something something pretty boy asshole getting karma and becoming a bitter incel. If that’s what they want the character to be, he’s probably not getting a fix-up anytime soon. If he ever gets used again at all anyway.

Silver/Bronze Age Batgirl doesn't have much, and is fairly standard and boilerplate. If you want Oracle start with Ostrander's Suicide Squad and run through Birds of Prey. For Cass and Steph you've got their solo runs, but Steph first debuts in Robin all the way back in IIRC '94. Nu52 drops and you've got Babs again; under Simone the book is fairly dreary and melodramatic but undergoes a stealth revamp once the Burnside era starts into a fairly light-hearted book.
