>>116227936>do executives really still believe in the hand drawn is dead crap?Execs don't have an artistic opinion about this one way or the other. The business of movie making from the financier's point of view is that it's a place where they can park their money. 2D animated films are a hassle, because they don't make enough money even when they do make money.
For example, suppose you're given the choice of making a single CGI film for $80 million that earns $400 million, or 10 2D films at a budget of $8 million each, and a box office take of $40 million each. These are realistic average expectations. Even though both options bring in the same profits, the large studio will always choose the 3D film. It's fewer bets, fewer places to park their money, and it's untenable to produce and flood the market with 10 animated films. To think of it another way, the market as a whole can probably absorb 8 major CGI films in a year, but it can't handle 80 2D films in the same span.
Billionaires don't play with penny stocks. Major studios don't mess with 2d animation for the same reason.
