>>116229459I agree on the xenomorphs, but disagree on the symbiotes.
Prometheus made the alien NOT alien, it's a direct relative of humanity. It robbed it of the best thing about the xenomorph, which is that humans went out so far into space it encountered a creature whose evolution is so alien to our own that fertilisation and birth are analagous to us with rape and death. It is the product of a cold, uncaring universe that created a perfectly efficient creature. In Prometheus they're our cousins that our grandparents built for specific purposes that are oooh so mysterious.
The symbiote has always been defined by its connection to its host, and particularly the character narrative of its host. Whether its an established classic character like Spider-Man or a donut steel introduced just to be a host, the symbiote stories are all about the agency of the entities involved in the symbiosis. Having a story that's about characters interacting with symbiotes on their own turf is and always has been a great idea. For a long time, I wanted to see Venom among the annals of Marvel's Cosmic characters.
The problem was that job was given to shit writers.
