The store used to be called "Chuck’s Feed and Seed" but that name of wasn’t very memorable and therefor neither was the shop very successful. Chuck ended up having to sell the shop to Sneed. Sneed's name however, created an alliteration which made the shop a household name in rural Springfield. The shop still pays homage to the original owner, Chuck with the footnote (Formerly Chuck's) because the business venture was his original idea. Elaborating further, the joke plays fun at modern business by implying that a business can be made to succeed, or fail, based only on the name of the owner. In conclusion, the joke is regarding the fine line between branding/marketing and supply and demand.
