One of the core issues I see with the new show, when compared to the original, is in the character design. She-ra is suppose to be a fairly archetypal feminine hero figure. As a figure of virtue, and femine virtue at that, she should look beautiful and feminine. In the original show, she did, however, the remake has her looking quite androgynous, and even masculine to a degree.
From what I've seen of some of the other character designs, an avoidance of femininity and conventional beauty seems to be a trend.
Like I said, I don't care about the old or the new show. I just think it's important to note a shift in design philosophy and focus in terms of character design.
