Why are so many people in the animation industry so bad at drawing? I've been looking at some of the "learn to draw X character" videos Disney and Nick have been putting out and I've seen god knows how many fan artists that are 1000x better than them at drawing the characters from the shows they work on or even created.

to be fair thise "learn how to draw charater" videos are for babies, they use simplistic shapes and lines in the right places and theres no focus on an actual sketch, preparation or even diversity of pose. it's not even gonna look all that great because they're not putting effort into a tutorial for kiddos

To add on this, for the actual show itself they have to make a shit ton of these storyboards for every episode
Like one maybe behind the scenes storyboard for like 4 minutes of animation I saw had like 700 individual drawings. Or the full cuphead episodes if you saw those

Its about the bottom line. Simpler drawings mean that more content can be pushed for less cost.

I know there's a lot people spouting how bauhouse and Calarts are to blame. But the fact is that Disney decides what art they want to pay for. and American companies decide that higher animation costs don't translate to higher sales.
