If the gods wanted to take humanity seriously, maybe they should've taken Salem seriously instead of giving her an arbitrary punishment and allowing her such freedom. They considered the whole affair a mistake, revealing how little they thought of humanity even when they were trying to usurp their power, and yet reacted so over-dramatically.
The gods didn't erase any magic, they just denied Remnant their presence and thus the magical powers that went along with it. They're loopy contrarians who think they're so above humans and then resort to apocalyptic violence the moment a group of humans slighted them. Saying "death is sacred" and then contradicting themselves by bringing Ozpin back to fix their mess.
Not to say Salem is right either, but damn. Jinn herself literally acknowledged the Gods were fallible. Nobody was a smart person in the fable, they were all fucking dumb. Maybe the GoD, he was at least honest and straightforward in his approach to things.
