It was an exhausting trip even for Spongebob (despite his chipper attitude), yet nothing seems to bring him down.
Except for one thing: a dissatisfied (and rude) customer. Squidward sees this poor starry eyed newbie cook at the kitchen, who's first face-to-face experience with a customer is the absolute worst you could possibly have. Him, who had been cashier at the fucking Krusty Krab, a complete shithole tobehonest, for who knows how long, dealing with assholes like that guy every day. It doesn't even faze him. But poor Bob is genuinely distraught here.
Even if the entire journey taking longer than it should have was Spongebob's fault, he kept them going nonetheless, and delivered, and completed his job. To see Spongebob work so hard, and to put in all his weird skills (rock-riding) for the job at hand, only to be disappointed and spat on at the last second... is something Squidward can relate to really fucking hard, and it breaks his cold black heart.
Nobody else can really stand Squidward, besides Bob. He had to stand up for him.
Of course all of that is thrown in the trash when he has to go back to work, that small spot of hope disappears as quickly as it came. C'est la vie, Squidward.
