The point is, the idea that certain shapes and lineart in and of themselves are bad is ridiculous. A cartoon or a comic is so much more than that. Color, shading, storyboarding, and animation are just as important to creating an appealing style, and even more important than all of those is how each of those elements work to serve the narrative of the art itself.
Noodle limbs and bean mouths aren't the problem. The problem with the "cal arts style" is the fact everyone is using it the exact same way and nobody in the industry is willing to experiment or innovate.
