>>115391920They did the same thing ALF did, attempted a forced renewal/movie pickup and didn't immediately get it, leaving for an awkward and bizarre out of nowhere cliffhanger of the series until they eventually got their finale. I've only heard sourceless rumors about Ben finally getting to make the movie, but I assume it will happen some day. I don't know why CN didn't immediately go for it since they push it the second hardest out of their entire library just under TTG. Might have had something to do with not wanting a definite series finale yet because of replay values.
Hopefully, unlike ALF, you're not left wishing the cliffhanger was the official ending because the actual finale ended up being terrible. They go out of their way to make the cast of Gumball shitty, terrible, and unlikeable (did the pizza guys really need to be some government hating psychos? All the men in general bad in some way or another?) to the extent that I think the cliffhanger was the best possible ending. The void is supposed to represent where mistakes or things that have ended go, the series ending with the void opening up and starting to swallow Elmore while the camera stops works to that logic. The show has officially ended once it goes in the void.
Besides, like I was saying, the characters were getting fucking terrible, the best ending is them all just dying and being put in the void. I don't need an actual finale where they deal with it or try to stop it. The idea that they're all just at home one night and their homes are engulfed in a growing sinkhole is fine for me. Unlike ALF where I wanted an actual good ending with all these characters and all I get is ALF running around with 2 random agents and the rest of the cast refused to show up because production made them depressed and hated it and Willy's actor left as soon as the final scene was done without saying goodbye to anyone.
