To a certain extent, yes.
To know the road ahead, ask those walking back; but deciding to continue down the path is up to you; and standing on the side of the road asking every traveler what they've seen will stop your travels, and halt you from seeing the sights themselves.
Would you rather journey or stand? If your journey isn't enjoyable, do you gain nothing from the experience, or will your lack of enjoyment be a tale to tell the next traveler asking about the road ahead? And if you don't enjoy the direction you're traveling in, what's stopping you from turning around, or taking a new path?
