The rest of the marvel universe is a weird hodgepodge of shit with little enough cohesion outside of group books - not that I think company cohesion is a good idea because then you get DC where everything is related and everyone is in bed with each other on both sides making the world feel very small.
X-men is best as a stand alone setting just like mystic DC was (Hellblazer, Swamp Thing ect.) Sandman played into the universe but would still have been better served by being seperate in my opinion.
