>>115168206>Why do you think Sasuke was so popular in the west?
Because he embodied teenage angst, edginess, and conflating being an aloof asshat with being cool, which are universal appealing to teenagers enter their rebellious teenagers, regardless of Skin color. Just like how Naruto appealed to every somewhat socially maladapted weird kid without an apparent talent, by BEING a somewhat socially maladapted weird kid without any apparent talent, but also being secretly super important and talented, and a generally likable and sociable fellow whose ostracization was no fault of his own, and Sakura, at least initially before it was revealed what a horrible person she was, resonated with every Plain Jane Teenage girl who ever pined over some edgy dork or sports chad, thinking that their unrequited love (i.e. never acting on anything) would eventually be rewarded with true love.
Seriously, it’s amazing how, for a series that did so many things wrong, especially when it came to characterization, managed to create a central trio that resonate so strongly with and appeal so perfectly to, and draw in, such broad demographics of teenagers without self awareness. With a little research, one could write a fucking Thesis on all of this.
