For this project, they selected an Earthling because of, well, mostly Carol's reputation, as well as Star-Lord and hearing the Avengers had killed Thanos in the end. So they think Earthlings have something special.
Project Nova involves merging a person with a portion of power they harvested from the Power Stone, like Mar-Vell did with the Space Stone to create the superluminal engine graft that can turn anyone or anything into a spaceship.
Their subject: former fighter pilot and rogue Richard Ryder. He is brave, loyal and capable, but unfortunately a bit of a loose cannon, as they discovered a little too late (but he was the only person who responded to the ad).
Now Carol is training him, but it is hard going; and if he wants to ignore her, he can, because although she is faster, he is stronger.
But they will have to come together to fight the threat of the Super-Skrull, who seeks revenge on the Kree and slaughters any Skrulls who oppose his mad fanatacism. Carol struggles with the idea of defending the people who had enslaved her and must face the disgraced Yon-Rogg once again as he, Nova and she work together to oppose the seemingly unstoppable Super-Skrull, himself a traumatized madman who lost everything to the cruelty of the Kree.
