Okay I'm new to this thread but
>>114859323Asuka is a tryhard overachiever in any field she gets into. Validation is what she strives for, not only in school but also any other venture she engages in (such as being tasked with learning combat strategy in giant robots, or learning to dance in synchronicity). Her success has given her a massive ego, and also fed into her idea that her anger and aggression are what allow her to achieve so highly, which is what she defines herself by. Thusly, she values her passion and despises seeing weakness in others. Asuka is not very smart socially despite her academic success, and so she is a poor judge of what makes someone "strong", such as admiring Kaji simply for being an old man and making excuses for why she thinks so highly of him, when in reality anyone can see she just has a daddy complex. Conversely, she is too harsh on people she perceives as weak because she has a deep seeded hatred of her own weakness. She tasted her weak state early in life and desperately shuns anything that threatens to - in her mind - drag her back to it.
Asuka is also loyal to authority and respects institutional authority, in her own way. She is not a rebel, even if she "has her own way". She is a paradox in that she is a team player, because she believes that is the best strategy to achieve personal victory. She is intelligent, but like all pilots (or everyone in the series) terrible socially and bad at introspecting on how her own actions and attitudes could be a factor in her teammates failure.
Why the /a/ hate? Anime isn't at war with cartoons. Don't most of us like both? Isn't Avatar THE SHOW to bridge gaps like this?
