Naturally he's being a complicated twat about it at first but over time as he journeys throughout his inner machinations, learning more about Pink/Rose, he ends up learning to genuinely accept himself and his heritage as both a human and a gem hybrid, and becoming more sound of mind again
I dunno I like the idea of forms never truly being gone and each one having a differing personality and history to them, sort of akin to what we saw with Pearl in A Single Pale Rose (not sure if that's how it works since I haven't seen that episode in a good while which is why I say akin)
