>>114756824The thing atheism lacks is any sense of community. 90% of the appeal of church is making human connections you otherwise wouldn't make. Its why cults take off, because they provide a sense of belonging that takes advantage of our biological imperative to be altruistic in return for social interaction.
Atheism never had that, so all you had was the smug "my beliefs about the universe are right and yours are dumb" but it never made you any friends. There was an almost complete lack of humanist themes involved, where as religion pushed helping your fellow man, or at least people in your tribe.
Its not like atheism is dying, there's just not a lot to say for it. There is no reason to get together once a week to talk about what you don't believe in, so atheists stay disconnected in comparison to theists who pool their resources to recruit and live by a set of rules that basically boil down to "make more theists through children or conversion".
