Marco wanted to return to his life, study and all those things, they should have given a stronger reason to it, explore it and make it clear that it was because he was sick of it. Don't forget this happens right after they broke the curse, they could have had Marco and Star discussing about it, friends fight and discuss sometimes afterall, here have a small green text:
>"Marco, what do you mean you are leaving? I though you wanted to be a knight">"I did, and I am, but Star, I already had that, I was a knight when I was in Hekapoo's neverzone.">"Well, yeah but... that was in other dimensions?">"Yeah, where they respected me for what I did, I wanted to stay there, remember? And you came and made me return">"Oh... yeah, but that was-">"That was the curse of the bloodmoon, changing my decision to follow you, when I have already made up my mind.">"....Marco">"I have make up my mind now by myself Star, I want to return to earth and be with my family and my friends, I lost so much because of that curse">"Bu-...">"This place... no offense, but this place sucks, the places I saw during my 16 years had a melancholy to it, they made me desire to stay there and keep on watching them, here, I would have never come here for so long if not for a curse... forcing me".There, easy right? Marco could even be angry and disliked to make the audience wonder why, obviously, he had achieved what he desired, thrice, became a martial artist chad, taken away from him by the curse and star. The girl he liked for 10 years? Taken away by the same. Time he could have had with his family, his lil sis, studies to become a psychologist as he wanted? Same.
They had the pieces for a good drama there and they didn't use it, at all.
