1. You are standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon.
2. You become terrified that you will go off of the edge of the Grand Canyon.
3. Your brain notices that you are not currently at risk of fall off of the Grand Canyon (if you're not actually about to fall off), you're just standing there. So why are you afraid? Your brain gets confused and short circuits.
4. Your brain wrongly determines that you must WANT to jump off the edge of the Grand Canyon and other parts of the brain are stopping you - this is the "bug."
5. The "bug" becomes real, your brain convinces you, and it is.
6. You then really "do want" to jump off of the Grand Canyon.
It's because the human mind is shit. Neuroscience has written extensively about this bug.
