One of the perks of being a paranoid shut-in is knowing you'll be prepared.

At the moment, I'm just trying to keep my mind off those things. The riot at my Safeway over rubbing alcohol was as close to a zombie apocalypse/Harry vs Ben situation as I've ever been in. I assume he's angry that the pandemic keeps him from stalking victims out on the streets or in the woods.

Then again, he can *somehow* fit inside buildings and disguise himself as part of the piping or house structure in order to destroy whole families, so I'm not sure what he's complaining over.

Yeah, fuck that noise, you do everything and I mean EVERYTHING in your power to destroy as much of your brain as you can. The necromorphs haven't shown any real ability to regenerate the host's body matter, save for the Ubermorph; but they're a conglomerate of many hosts, but they sure as fuck have shown that the host can stay fucking aware of their situation after the fact.

Guardians also aren't the only ones afflicted by this. It's implied that ALL Necromorphs who haven't been sufficiently dead for a long enough period get some part of their consciousness trapped and aware in genuinely unspeakable torment as part of the connected mind of the Necromorphs.

If you absolutely need to kill yourself, ensure that you absolutely destroy your skull and cranial matter beyond reconstruction.

Yeah, that plan worked out for everyone else that tried it. Funny how all those notes about aiming for limbs and what not were almost always written in the blood of the person writing it. The necromorphs are simply unbeatable. They never properly communicate it through the games because it has to be a 'game', but cutting off the damn thing's limbs doesn't even kill it. Anything short of complete vaporization is simply incapacitating the thing to a point where you can get yourself somewhere that it isn't! It is an enemy who's every CELL is dedicated to killing you in the most heinous methods imaginable just so it can add your meat to its army.

And remember, the markers don't just affect the dead flesh of dead humans, animals are susceptible to it as well. All flesh is free game.

I had the original trilogy and their DLCs, both anime movies, both books, all the comics, the Wii rail shooter, the mobile game, the minigame collection, the artbook. I did fucking everything EA asked of me to support this fucking series and they still took it round the back of the woodshed. They wont even just do some cheap "hd collection" re-releases. Candle Cove was pretty much his earliest piece of work as far as I know, so it was a little rough around the edges naturally. Didn't help that it became a bandwagon for literally every tryhard that wanted to use it for their own gain or "expand it" in inherently stupid ways.

Local58 is coming from a point where Kris is definitely more experienced and whilst there are copycats, you're not going to see anyone try to make "official sequels" to it like you'd see back in the days when Candle Cove was made. On top of that, most of the copycats are at least semi-original and are pretty enjoyable watches on their own.

I think he just doesn't understand the expression, combined with not really knowing how to deal with Firebrand being so free-willed. I think the idea is that some apocalypses did happen on Horrorverse Prime, but were fixed with the joint efforts by multiple groups (MIB, BPRD, etc). If an apocalypse got so bad that things had to be reset, they do but some character had to sacrifice themselves. But in general, all the groups existing on the same Earth things got resolved faster. The catch is that sometimes it takes years to fix things, so say Dawn of the Dead happened in 1978, they take like three years to fix it, wipe everyone's memory, and everyone believes it to be 1979. This makes time travel a little harder in Horrorverse Prime.

Any apocalypse that stays permanent is probably its own Earth like Crossed or the rest of Romero's "...of the Dead" series or Lucio Fulci's Zombie and all that.

Shinji grows up alongside Minya/Junior before Gendo snatches him up. He's better developed as a person despite being raised according to kaiju living standards which makes it all the more painful when Zeruel or Destoroyah (or both) end up murdering his adoptive dad. He's been actively exposed to fucking Slenderman for what are quite likely *years* at this point. It's a miracle he hasn't simply shut down or turned into a rambling mess that can't even remember how to walk.

It's kinda questionable if he's even hurt Slendy in any true sense. He might be doing more damage to himself long-term than he's actually done to it.

Earlier threads proposed that some form of Man-Thing is probably here. As for other horror flora, it's probably pretty nightmarish. A recent indie horror game actually dealt with a sort of plant-monster that functioned kinda like the Thing with pseudo-reality warping properties.

You just have to assume that any of Swamp Thing or Man-Thing's superhero-related stuff didn't happen or happened with different characters from the Horrorverse instead, like for instance Horrorverse Man-Thing would be like a combination of the original story from Savage Tales #1 (where they never really say Ted Sallis was working on recreating the Super Soldier Serum, just that he was making a chemical that would make a soldier into an indestructible warrior) and the Dead of Night miniseries.

How much of the Xemnu stuff could even be on Horrorverse Prime, I think in the last thread it was decided that the two Journey Into Mystery comics (from Marvel's monster days) would be in, and that Horrorverse Xemnu would be orange (like in the original comics) instead of white. It seems like the very energy the Marker emits is pretty much booby-trapped, so they'd need a significant quruantine and vetting process to ensure it's not tainted/hasn't tainted anyone else. And given that the Markers are intelligent, it may very well change tactics if it finds humanity has caught on. Couple that with classic human error and stupidity, and you have a domino effect that quickly leads to death.

Well we know he tends to spare innocents or even genuinely good demons (like the Wretch), so he can clearly save his ripping and tearing for the actual evils. But if he saw Regan, he might not think she can be saved as he wouldn't have the foreknowledge to know that Pazuzu can be banished from her body. Of course, given Eternal implies he's more intelligent then he lets on, he might be able to outthink Pazuzu and have him overplay his hand. So, its kinda situational and based on *when* he sees Regan.

Rosemary's Baby and other such situations would just have him kill the cults or demons responsible. If the woman or the baby don't show any obvious signs of being corrupt, I think he'd just leave them alone. In a situation like Hereditary, he'd just kill Paimon's cult and send Paimon back to Hell.

Isaac was having delusions about his girlfriend before he was anywhere near the marker. Ironically, it's only after he comes to terms with her death that the marker shit really starts getting to him. You could also say getting institutionalized and put through even more insane bullshit cracked him, but I'd say it's the delusions he was already having that were the key point. He went to the Ishimura to save his girlfriend, knowing damn well she was already dead and letting his brain pretend she wasn't.

Yeah, this. They have power beyond what the original take on Cthulhu has been shown to be resistant to, but his passive mind-rape combined with how fragile their mental viewpoints are is highly likely to fuck them over in a direct encounter.

There's actually a lot of fun stuff in regards to Slenderman, like the aforementioned TribeTwelve and other ARG's, blogs, and shit. He's fun to talk about when you focus on all of the good stuff and none of the cancer.

But Ligotti is also really nice. Apparently there's a game being based on his story "My Work Is Not Yet Done", at least in part.

There really isn't in my experience. The horror of Slenderman ultimately has no grounding to it; Lovecraft had alienation and the unknown, Poe had death, Ligotti has life and Poppy Z Brite had rejection and sensation.

The voice of horror is that of the personal confession but what can one actually confess about Slenderman? What *is* there to know? It's a tall dark entity in a suit that pursues children or those who learn of it but that's all. There's no primordial fears there. It's not pitiful or gross or disgusting or unstoppable or freakish. It's at most uncanny. Like most Creepypasta and SCP, Slenderman lacks legs which is why all of these things die or just get stolen as motifs for other ideas that eventually fall apart and get recycled as well.

It kinda does work on a fear, or rather several. Not only the fear of the unknown, but the fear of the uncanny. Of that which is not you or connected to you. Of something fundamentally inhuman but it tries to play the part of being otherwise. A good example of this is probably the Stranger in the Magnus Archives, which is the very *embodiment* of the concept. Things which are not human but are very disconscertingly trying to act like they are, usually with poor results that just highlight their un-nature. This is a fear that stems from back in the day when we still huddled in tribes in caves or huts, even if was simply in the form of strangers we did not know or comprehend.

I'd also argue that Slenderman IS unstoppable. The majority of stories end on really depressing notes, and he's rarely, if ever inconvenienced by the end of things.

So, I think if anything you just need to broaden your horizons a little bit in regard to what you ingest in regards to Slenderman content. There's a lot of stuff that addresses what seem to be your key gripes with the concept. It's definitely not for everyone, and the community is pretty much dead, but there's some good stuff all the same.

It does so in the same generic way any 'unknown stranger entering into familiar territory' does. The Outsider is a perfect example of this. It pretty much covers everything you described exactly but is still just as unremarkable and uninteresting as Slenderman as opposed to say, Halloween's Michael Myers' who embodies the idea of 'faceless evil which blends in' far better than either of those things ever did. Likely because the story he first appeared in had a set beginning and end and a cohesive idea behind it compared to some thrown together image board creepy pasta like 'The Russian Sleep Experiment'

That's not what I mean by 'the fear of unstoppability'. The fear of unstoppability isn't 'the bad guy is going to win inevitably' or that the story ends on a depressing note because while The Call of Cthulhu has both of those features, it also clearly shows Cthulhu being stopped. Likewise for The Dunwich Horror. The fear of unstoppability is the idea that no matter what is attempted to prevent the threat, it cannot be stopped; Masque of the Red Death, the endless pursuit of the Terminator in The Terminator and the creature from It Follows all demonstrate this well. You have to at least have the agency to try and stop the creature in someway. A good example is the Jenifer comic from above; the fact that the protagonist could escape or get away from the monster and has means of dealing with it makes it more threatening when those means fail or crash because hope is created before it is immediately plunged into despair.

There's none of that in Slenderman. There can't be any of that in Slenderman. It's always been too narrow a concept to create a variety of fears or a variation in plot structure. It's always going to be 'we dug too deep'. It's shit. Things like it and SCP have plagued modern attempts at creating horror. It was as large a speed bump for internet horror as Scream ended up being for movie horror.

Whilst Halloween and Slenderman have a bunch of thematic similarities, the entire function of the characters is entirely separate. There's a very clear divide between "inhuman but still physically limited in some manner" like with Myers and the repeated eldritch fuckery involved with any Slenderman story.

And the whole idea that since Halloween has a start and end thusly making it "better" or "good" is likewise flawed. I can describe so many horror movies where this isn't the case, and in the vein of Halloween, you're rarely going to find someone who won't complain about the Thorn Cult stuff and how convoluted it all got.

On top of that, as a narrative point, the majority of Slenderman stories give hope to the protagonists involved. It's the reason why so many people get invested in Everyman and Twelve, on top of them using effects that you really wouldnt expect out of a supposed Youtube series. Hope is given to the characters and is snatched away at the last minute. It's pretty much a constant, but never stays too consistent or predictable either. So, it does indeed have elements of uncertainty laced with similar feelings of inevitability and hopelessness, which are pretty common elements in horror, cosmic horror especially.

Mike Myers in and of himself is kept vague enough where he could be a supernatural incarnation of evil or just a psychotic man but there is still enough supernatural horror present to coincide with the fantastical and weird elements that help make horror what it is.

It's impossible to determine how people will feel to anything, let alone horror. There are those terrified by concepts like Siren Head and other Trevor Henderson creations (equally as vague and nebulous as Slenderman), and there are those who find shit like Myers scary. There are those scared of say, Pennywise or Killer Klowns, and you have those freaked out by things like DBD. There's no general list you can look at to see what will definitively terrify someone.

Tell that to literally any of the long-running stories or series involving him, many of which ended up interconnecting and eventually concluding. Hell, tell that to anyone who actually writes cosmic horror at all and see how fast you're laughed out of the discussion.

At this point, I'd argue that you're really jsut looking for things to nitpick about. It's fine to have different tastes in horror, but not everyone is going to enjoy the same things, or even view something in the same light as you would.

Sonic.exe was awful I'll admit, but it did kick off the groundwork for much better spooky shit involving haunted videogames, alongside Ben Drowned. It's really up in the air how the haunted game subgenre of horror would've changed if they didn't exist.

The remake was clearly a case of the author being dissatisfied with what they made previously and trying to "improve it", to worse results.

They didn't die. All the limb removal did, canonically, was make them immobile and make them less of a threat. Problem is that removing limbs ends up creating the limb necromorphs that fuse into the gangly ones or just become biomass for the bigger ones as they converge. There's pretty much no way to stop it without disintegration and the psychic waves guarantees anyone who even floats near a previously infected ship will go mad and become the new infected, regardless of willpower. Isaac was a unique person and didn't remotely stop it.

Pretty much this. You don't "kill" Necromorphs. The most you do is disable their bodies and render them into a state of dormancy until they can be repurposed into either a better combat form or into a larger Necromorph entity. They don't suffer real losses in any sense.

The only way to permanently put down a Necromorph is complete disintegration down to the last errant molecule. And that's just for single basic Necros, let alone the advanced forms.
