>>113753046>The whole point is that they are "Justice League but VIOLENT and FASCIST".The Squadron Supreme existed for more than 10 years as just "They're the Justice League in Marvel", making random appearances as heroes from another world. They already had the Squadron Sinister which was "they're the evil Justice League". So, the Squadron were pretty much just a JL stand-in, although with Marvel's tendency of misunderstandings leading them to clashing with other heroes.
Even the actual Squadron Supreme mini-series didn't have them especially violent and their big morally gray area (using brainwashing to fix criminals) was something actually done in some DC stories, like the original Superman Red/Blue. They also dropped everything they were doing when someone actually died due to it.
The only time they were especially edgy was Supreme Power (which was technically tied to the Ultimate line, where many heroes were edgy) and the recent post-Secret Wars team, which had even a Squadron Sinister member in there.
