>>113790130All of these are the key features for the characters, you change one and it no longer resembles them. Face shape and height (proportions too), teeth especially.
This is personality stuff, which is inherently subjective. It's also really obvious, I'm explaining this more to support my next point.
>>113784258What's wrong with this? The hair is too long, for a start. Months too long, which tells us a deliberate style choice rather than "forgot to get a haircut". It doesn't look unkempt, the owner is clearly taking care of it.
Because it's so long, how it wraps around the head to imply a rounded shape, the face is softened and we lose what little angularity we might've had.
It's more naturalisticly rendered, but this is a style thing. It does undermine the shapes of the original design though.
The biggest thing, however, is the proportions.
Chris is a little over 4.5 heads tall.
Dan is about, I'd guess about 3.5 heads.
Compared to Chris, he is almost infantile proportionally. Short proportions aren't exactly uncommon in animation, in fact I'd say it's the default. A normal adult man is about 7.5 heads tall.
And this is another problem I'm seeing. In this, and most of the other art, the proportions are completely butchered.
The face shape is fucked too, almost bean like (the cheeks) rather than square. The soul patch is a scribble, instead of the roughly rectangular shape it should be.
One deviation is fine, multiple ones and you stop registering it as the character. He looks like a uwu soft boi teenager, rather than a grown balding (but still admittedly cute) man.
