a lot of american homes a built very cheaply. Not like it isn't costly to do, but that they are built with the cheapest possible materials for the lowest actual cost so that the construction contractors can have better margins. More often than not they are not built to last more than a few decades. and it is frequently cheaper to demolish a house and build an entirely new one rather than repair and maintain a house for a prolonged period of time. Depending on the types of storms you can expect, mostly high plains winds and tornadoes or hurricanes, you could see your roof or at least sections of it fly off. it is not outside the real of possibility.
