This sitcom fatigue even applies to live-action, too. Nobody gives a shit about Modern Family or mixed•ish or whatever. It’s sci-fi dramas like Westworld, dystopian thrillers like The Handmaid’s Tale, or coming-of-age series that dive a little deeper like Euphoria that everybody’s always talking about.
This is why cable television is dying and streaming is catching more attention. TV executives need to stop living in the past and should instead be open to picking up more unique ideas. You can’t get another Simpsons by just keeping everything grounded and predictable, something Duncanville gravely suffers from.
I personally enjoy slice-of-life comedies (Bob’s Burgers and Craig of the Creek are two of my favorite current series), so it’s easier for me to be entertained by Duncanville, but I can still admit that the writing and character dynamics need to do double duty in order to make the show more than just “average.”
