>>113098911Ben was too much of a victim to die. I didn't even want to see him punished, because he already suffered so much in his life. What's the point? The point of his character journey, to me, was for him to became an adult and accept himself and be able to succeed because of it.
He feels like he can't shoulder the burden of his family's legacy? In accepting himself and not being afraid of it anymore, he was supposed to be able to do that and surpass his family. That's why him defeating Palpatine would have worked so much better than some random like Rey doing it.
He thinks he's a bad person who will never be good enough? He is supposed to find someone that challenges that idea and he accepts that he's good enough just like Tai told him.
He wants to be his own person and worries he will be lost in the legend of his family? He already made his own legend, and he did it without any help from his family or anyone else unlike Rey.
He was the true hero of the story for me and he should have defeated Palpatine, putting his family's story to rest and then moved on to be his own person doing good in the world and finding his own self-worth as a fully-realized adult man.
I don't even know who the fuck that ending was written for, because it wasn't for Ben Solo's character that's for sure. They treated him like Darth Vader, when he never was.
