>>113031593While I agree with the point that Beyond took *ample* inspiration and outright rip offs from Spiderman/2099 (also: Fuck the writers for that F4 rip off and in general disparaging social outcasts/accident victims as unsuitable for becoming heroes,) I have always figured that the other big issue with the series was that Kids WB gave the Beyond crew so much shit to deal with that it hampered the overall product.
I mean, when a Beyond episode was bad, it was *bad*. People give the giant farm animals episode of TAS so much shit, but the Egg Baby, the killer robot waifu, the literal prison school, Stalker's second appearance... these all felt like awful committee episodes or shit the writers threw together to please some suits. The evil serpent guys also felt so completely out of place I can only imagine it was some last minute stuff written after WB rejected a much cooler/darker plotline.
Also, Blight never was given some master plan other than trying to find a way to turn back human and occasionally trying to kill Wayne. I cannot recall any other evil corporate plan like smuggling bio weapons or trying to steal data/tech from rival businesses, which would have been good ideas to give him.
If it wasn't for Return of the Joker delivering an amazing send off, even with Epilogue in mind, Batman Beyond would just come off as a sort of Pirates of Darkwater where we never really got a proper conclusion.
