'Spider-Man: Far from home' messed up my original idea.
It would be set a few years after 'Captain Marvel'. Carol, who is on a mission, gets a message from Soren (Talos' wife) that her husband has gone missing. Carol finds Talos, who is terribly injured; with his dying words he reveals a terrifying plot.
It becomes apparent that Talos had joined a secret resistance army led by a charismatic fanatic who intends to unite the disparate Skrull tribes scattered across the galaxy to attack Hala directly, striking at the heart of the Kree empire; his main objective is to destroy the Supreme Intelligence.
Talos realized this would whip the Kree into a frenzy and they would devote all their resources into annihilating the Skrull race. The fanatic leader of the secret invasion army does not care, since he believes it would make the surviving Skrulls stronger, and eventually would outmatch and defeat the Kree.
Carol pursues, but keeps missing Skrull attack parties; each time, the strategy is executed so perfectly she is forced to stay behind to save lives, having to choose between being a warrior or a hero.
Finally, when it's almost too late, she confronts the Skrull leader as his forces attack Hala with pinpoint accuracy. His name is K'lrt and he possesses powers that exceed even Carol's; invisibility, super-strength, invulnerability, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, force shields, and a shapeshifting power far beyond a normal Skrull's. From the start, Carol is the underdog. He boasts of his power and calls himself the Super-Skrull, "The first of many, Kree! Eventually, we ALL will be Super-Skrulls!" Their battle rages through the great building that houses the Supreme Intelligence's central core.
As she lays in near-defeat, unable to even get up, the Intelligence speaks in her mind: if she surrenders to it, it will bolster her power so she can defeat him. Rather than doing so, Carol is so incensed by this she flares up beyond her boundaries (cont.)
