>>112994154For normal people? It's not a bad thing. In fact it's perfectly natural. The Jedi don't stop everyone having a bad day, or stop every crime in the galaxy, hence tolerating the Hutts as long as they stick to their own space.
It's really a problem for Force Sensitives, though. Strong emotions can twist a Force user, and worse the Dark Side is pretty damn addictive. It becomes a feedback cycle when you rely on it. That's the Jedi doctrine on the matter, though given how fledgling Dark Side users seem to have an alarming tendency to get drunk on their own power and fuck themselves up, and the most senior Sith Lords show amazing capacity for calm and restraint, even for Dark Side users there's a learning curve of trying to master their emotions too so they don't get mastered by them. You can't be a true Sith Lord if you are a slave to your emotions.
That said there's other philosophies. The Bendu had some things to say, pointing out how the Light can also cause problems. He's a huge proponent of being "in the middle". The Night Sister clans also could tap into the Dark Side and the Light. They try not to go too Dark because you can lose yourself in it, and true to this Mother Talzin's quest for revenge lead to the destruction of her Night Sister clan and ultimately herself.
But everyone has the Dark Side in them to an extent. Even Yoda was forced to recognize his own, admitting the Jedi were wrong to believe themselves beyond the Dark Side. Only by recognizing it can you truly defeat it within yourself, though it's a constant diligence situation.
