>>112927462The show is the best I've seen in a long while, and one of the best cartoons I've ever saw. We've been analyzing the hell out of it in our thread, and my opinion is this is the Evangelion of western animation in terms of emotional content and themes.
I'm not bullshitting you. This is among my top five best cartoons of all time and maybe even #1. Nothing, absolutely nothing in western animation has come even remotely close to this level of emotional realism. My only bias is that I see a lot of myself in Reggie, across the gulf of decades. I've been where she is, so this show has struck a deep cord within me. I went into it totally blind, not knowing ANYTHING about it and I expected it to be a SJW shitfest. Holy hell was I wrong. Within the first five minutes I was hooked. Not only that, but the show has an amazing bit, a bit where when Reggie is at her lowest it's a male teacher who helps her out (this is not a spoiler without context) and so even my expectation that this'll be some feminist shit was also utterly BTFO. It's the exact opposite, fully fair, fully neutral.
Note however that Reggie is NOT perfect. She's flawed, and I love her for it. She's VERY flawed actually, and other characters call her out/see her as such. The sheer amount of symbolism, themes, the way they're depicted - I've already written much about it so I don't want to repeat myself, but yeah, this just blows other shows out of the water. This is what it means to learn from anime and not ape its empty forms. You'll know what I mean.
Drop whatever the hell you're doing and watch this. But be warned - it can hit hard.
