>>112883135I mean, we only have four episodes of Owl House to work with at this point, so the only fair narrative comparison to be made right now is how well both shows did their world and character introductions. And in that regard, Amphibia established who their characters are, how they play off each other, and the nature of the world they reside in its opening episodes much better than Owl House, which has greatly struggled with its own introductory setup.
I think all together, the first four episodes of Owl House DO have elements that serve as a good foundation for the rest of the series. But the pacing for everything is weird. Maybe reordering the plot beats like this could have worked:
>First episode is shit, but fuck it, it can stay>New ep2: combine second episode's cold open with fourth episode's plot, with Luz jumping straight into her magic studies>New ep3: do second episode's plot, with Luz buying into the chosen one spiel even more because she figured out the light spell>New ep4: now we do episode three's plot, with Luz ditching Eda for magic school due to her having learned/mastered no new spells since the second ep.The writing would still be weak, yes, but reordering things like this would at least have given it better flow. Maybe.
