The SpongeBob Movie wasn't good.

It's actually the first example of the declining quality usually associated with S4+, the only reason anyone likes it and adds it to the first three seasons "good SpongeBob media trinity" is nostalgia. The movie was the first to abandon the almost esoteric nature SpongeBob had until then, and was something Stephen refused to do for years.
