It certainly doesn't TELL YOU that it destroyed itself, and why would that make sense anyway? Why would it have to destroy itself?
In any case, aside from the vagueness in the story in question being questioned, you can think what you want but Venom was literally the last Spider-Man villain to actually mean anything, and is one of the most popular for a reason.
Since Venom's inception and the direction of Spider-Man comics post Venom too, Venom has been the more interesting character.
