Let's have a legitimate Cartoon vs Anime thread. Pros and cons. And yes, this is mainly a US vs Japan thing for you memers.

Cartoon:

Pros
> Cartoons can be around 30-40 years
>Shows have a bigger budget (though this doesn't meant much as shows like Family Guy has worse animation than W'Z)
>Does audio before animation, allowing for lip syncing (though this doesn't help much with dubs in other languages)
>Has potential with different art styles.
>A show has a longer production value.

Cons
>Has stigma for "Cartoons are for children," with really the only mainstream "adult animation" being shows like Family Guy/Simpsons even though their comedy is just as juvenile as kid's animation.
>Because of shows production time, new seasons will be announced before the first reaches episode 3. Meaning if it's a bad show, they are wasting time on a bad show.
>While potential having varity in art styles, shows nowadays tend to be falling into either the "Cal-arts" style or the "Noodle arm" style.
>Most cartoons being made tend to be made for pre-school demographic, meaning around 40% of what is animated is "Older friendly."
>The big budget films comes from Disney and are typically seen as overglorified Toy/doll commercials.

Anime

Pro:
>Pretty consitent artstyle across the board. At least makes things easier from a visual stand point if you want to try to get into other shows.
>Has around 120 shows a year. That way even with all the harem, shounen, and isekai out there, there will be something for you.
>Shows have more versitile in age range. there are actually shows aimed at certain demographics.
>Animation can have major high points.
>Shows feel like they can be loose and wacky yet can be played straight.

Cons
>Low production time. So many shows coming out means that many won't get the time or animation that they may deserve.
>Animation is done before audio, leading to lip flaps. Though this helps with dubbing in other languages.
>Artstyles can be samey.
