Brian's pretty fucking shaken up after everything so him faltering and taking the sword makes sense, and he's right to be a little concerned about what that means:

He IS the Champion of Merlin and protector of the sceptered isles, but what does that mean now when the landscape has so dramatically changed both with Krakoa and in terms of a changing society.
The costume's a cute callback to his original duds though, that's nice.
