Incidentally, and this is me being dumb, I had totally forgotten about the original one shot story until someone pointed out that the recent 35th anniversary issue was an expanded remake and going back, I really do see that original as an in medias thing we only just now caught up with.

I don't know how I feel about that being the true (potential) ending but I also don't imagine Stan going well out of the way to contradict it until he has an actual ending lined up. As for me I'd be happy with either Chizu or Tomoe though I do lean more towards the former.
