I've seen plenty of anime where white characters were drawn pretty much exactly the same as the Japanese characters or the anime was actually set in some non-Asian country and the characters were still in what'd be seen as an obviously anime style (as in, you'd think they WERE intended to be Japanese before seeing where the show's set).
But I'm not really trying to be debate this because I'm not trying to argue LOL ANIME CHARACTERS ARE WHITE. And I kinda suspect this thread was made due to how I posted a comment in the Sailor Moon thread about how it seems a lot of artists seem to default to assuming anime characters are white, but I didn't mean I actually thought that.
I guess pretty much the point of this post is that yeah, some anime distinguish races pretty overtly, but for others "looking like an anime character" isn't always a 100% guarantee they're Japanese because ALL those characters are drawn pretty samey.
So I guess what I'm really trying to say is yeah, you can't always tell the intended race of a character at a glance, because they're cartoons and they're not real and there's pretty much always going to be some level of exaggeration.
