Amethyst was supposed to be a warrior, now she's a stoner. Garnet was supposed to be an invaluable asset to the diamonds and an expendable guard, now she leads the CGs. Peridot was supposed to be an autistic engineer, now she's an artist. Bismuth was supposed to be a construction worker, now she's a swordsmith. I could go on. Pretty much every gem that Steven has come into contact with has grown personally or in their abilities, but he can't, and his existing issues have only gotten worse as he ages.
