I feel a huge part of why nobody at /co/ wants to ever truly discuss any of the merits of the various Sonic comics....is because nobody in /co/ WANTS a Sonic comic. Not really. And that can apply to most general audiences.
You never notice that you see much coverage or reviews. Even from the small fry sites. FUCK, even from the Sonic fan sites (mostly they just release the cover solicitations and previews)! That's mostly forum talk, and it doesn't take long before it just devolves into the same circle jerk you see here.
The rare times it does get coverage, it's often to the surprise of the reviewer that Sonic...has a comic book. Despite nearly 30 yrs BEING in comic books.
It's like some dude who used to watch TMNT in the 80's, stopped paying attention for years, and then realizes that not only the Turtles are still around, but they're owned by Nickelodeon and drastically different. Why? Cuz he never took the franchise seriously enough to consider it's longevity.
General /co/mic book guys do not respect the Sonic franchise enough to demand a ongoing look into his lore and universe made with quality. They respect the NOVELTY of a Sonic comic, it's very existence being a source of amusement and bewilderment to them. And for once, it's not just fucking Classic/Modern faggotry going on here.
Why you think so many folks dickride MegaDrive?
because it's Classic Sonic? Not really.
Because it's well written and executed? FUCK NO!
It's because it's a regular Sonic game stretched out into 3 (well 2 1/2) easily consumable issues that you can chuckle, admire the art & then toss away in your closet, just like beating a video game. Just more game merch to add to the collection, not an actual narrative to enjoy.
If /co/ had it's way, Sonic wouldn't have a comic book, he'd be stuck primarily in the YA graphic novel section with a series one-shots that
feature loosely-connected self-contained stories.
