>>112384313Isn't Jello an artist himself? Isn't he the one that made all the assets? Honestly making a sprite sheet isn't that difficult, and is obviously far far easier than animating everything by hand, especially when Flash, Spine and ToonBoom already automates the tweening process.
Pic related, I'm an amateur without much experience myself, but when I tried making shitty assets for a friend's game it only took me a few hours to draw a base and then lazily edit some expressions. Again, like you said Epithet's assets are obviously of much higher quality, but if Jello's been drawing for as long as he has then he should be able to bust out these things by the dozens. Experienced artists like Keenan Lafferty and Ethen Becker can sketch something close to Epithet's character's quality in literal minutes. I'm not saying that makes the art less valuable, but would the casual general audience really tell the difference between a meticulously perfected image, and something that's structurally "Really good" ? These are things you have to consider when crafting a product.
>>112383349This voice actor argument makes the most sense. I just assumed that Jello, being a pseudo voice actor himself with his toes dipped in the community, just gathered a bunch of his friends together for a project and probably tossed them a few sheckels like Rooster Teeth did with RWBY early on. If he went all the way and paid each actor a living wage, then I could see THAT inflating the budget. I just don't buy the Epithet's art itself breaking the budget.
