The entirety of WGJ4K was about hatred of the video game community, something he straight-up said in some interview or discussion he wrote long ago I can no longer find going into detail on his plans for WGJ4K before it "ended". Shit like his earlier Newgrounds work, like for example with Jerry, usually revolved for some time around the anticlimax of bad shit happening and then Jerry going to hell until one of the very last Jerry shorts, when Jerry suddenly went to heaven. Shit like his undertale parody, his Luigi short, both are characterized by some very strange choices in terms of characterization and focus. When Africa Dudes happened his response was to make an entire "joke" video bitching-not-bitching about not being included. Remember his celebrity portrait experiment?
What are these things, I ask, if not marks of what kind of a guy Max is? He doesn't make stuff like some of his parodical works because he actually wants to, but because they're how he has to stay afloat, how he has to make money. Max, it has always struck me, is a man who very much loves and wants to be an animator, but the reality of this day and age is that you're going to have to do some things you don't like, which Max does quite begrudgingly. Maybe he doesn't, he always seems happy enough, but damn if he doesn't seem to like to take the piss a LOT.
I used to follow this guys for years, since his Newgrounds days. I'm not saying this out of nowhere, this shit's been hovering in the background for a very, very long time. Max has come across to me very much as a person who simultaneously despises what he has to do and to a degree the people he has to work with and for, but who is kept afloat by his passion for what he's actually doing. He does not help himself, however, with utter lack of restraint.
