I also just watched with my family.
It's a legitimately good movie with a Christmas theme, not just a by-the-numbers "The Santa Claus"-type Christmas movie, if you get what I mean.
And it's animated beautifully.
Also, everyone on /co/ should be happy to hear that there is absolutely nothing politicizing about it.

That and Jesper in the first 20 or so minutes keep it from being a perfect film. I know he's meant to be annoying and snobbish but he just wasn't even that funny and I was starting to worry the film would just be eye candy. I still think it's overall great though.

I had it on with the sound off at a Christmas gathering earlier and while I haven't been able to properly watch it yet the animation is some of the best I have seen in the entire 2010s and it deserves recognition for that at least.

Incredibly well done. Feels like a lot of the plot was rushed through but as a result we got a lot of good moments with the characters.

I wished they just had Jesper be open with wanting to go back home with Klaus and Alva at the start so we don't have to go through with that subplot. Everyone getting mad at Jesper while forgetting he helped made the town less hostile and gave the school the nug it needed was dumb. It would've made felt a bit better if it was just about people unsure about how to feel about him leaving after all the things he done.

Agree with the sentiments of the beginning of the film not being so strong and Jasper being a bit toi obnoxious of a cunt, but boy did that movie pick it back up and carry it home. Also one of the rare cases where children in media did not annoy me the fuck out - all the kids were so joyous, sweet, excited about the toys and coming together as a big town family instead of bitter fighting. And then there's Margu who is real daughter of the year material. The way they executed the whole Sami thing was really nice as well, there really was no translation needed to what they were talking about. Really a great film even with some cliche-ish plot developments and weaker moments in the first half.

And fucking Norm Macdonald, man.

The shading program as a whole is amazing. My only nitpick is there are a few places where the shadow should be sharper, like his mustache in that still (when the distance between the shadow & the object casting it is at its shortest.)
It’s gonna be so fun seeing other studios try to come up with their own program & fail miserably.

I kinda agree with this at least on Schwartzman - he's not distractly bad but even during some of the better scenes I was thinking maybe someone else could've done this better. I didn't have any problems with anyone else (maybe Cusack sounded like she was phoning it in).

I just watched it because Christmas.
It looks nice but some of the story choices annoyed me.
Also am I the only one who felt like Klaus was turning Jesper into his replacement wife? Had to have the teacher in the movie to make sure it wasn't too gay.

I kinda see it - that scene where Jesper's behind the curtain and Klaus was seeing/imagining his wife was a bit questionable - and then when Jesper is trying to get Klaus to laugh again is something you see with romantic couples rather then father/son. I liked the humour. Some beats were too forced for the sake of plot, though, like the clans allying, and everyone getting angry at him. The villains' plot was thin, but that was okay.

Alva and Klaus should have been upset that he was considering leaving, he should have tried to convince at least one of them to go back south with him, then they all get soured and decide to go their separate ways until he decides to act on his desire to stay

I think it was meant to tie harder into the fact that klaus kept noticing that peculiar snowy wind. sort of that ever present "presence" of his wife that he saw what he wanted to see

It's likely more the abandonment, Klaus expected they'd be bros expanding the gift giving project and Alva literally was convinced to stay by him only for it all to be a temporary punishment of a rich boy.

He was one of the animators for Hades. One of Meg's animators did work on this film as Jesper's animation supervisor. The only other animator I've found in common is Borja Montoro, who worked on Zeus and Hera.
Several other veteran animators contributed their talents as well, like Tony Fucile, John Pomeroy, and James Baxter
