>>112137783>racist as per the video you linked. The point of linking that video was to show how racism has been redefined over the years to mean things quite different from what it used to mean. If you look in a paper dictionary, the racism entry will probably say something like
>the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or racesIn the relationship example, people who are related tend to live near each other and share surnames. People who live near each other and have the same surnames are often related. Asking a friend if she's related to someone nearby with the same surname is not racist (according to the dictionary definition) at all.
>is blatant racismIt literally is not. It's a normative belief regarding spoken language conduct. Race has nothing whatsoever to do with it. You're aware that language and race van vary independently of each other, right? The busboy in the the song was "Mexican", which is a nationality, not a race.
>Racism doesn't exist only when people do blatantly racist shit. That depends on what you mean by "exist" there. For an empiricist, it kind of does, but your epistemology may vary.
>And examining our biases can help us become more egalitarian, which is of course, the main goalSurely the goal of examining biases is to improve instrumental rationality and the accomplishment of one's goals, whatever they may be. It may be egalitarianism, but it may not be. Outcome-focused egalitarianism is bad in my estimation because it interferes with wellbeing, which is a more important goal to me. Most people in the world are not egalitarian, which is something that should be kept in mind.
>Oh that's bullshit and I tell everyone that says it that it's bullshitIt is the prevailing narrative of our time in academia, and it is marching through other institutions as we speak.
