The days grow colder, the nights grow longer. That means /co/ Holiday Cheer is coming to town. Grab some cocoa, turn on the music of the season, get comfy, and hang out with some /co/mrades as we share stories and get into the holiday spirit.
As previous years, share your Amazon wishlist and some random Anon may purchase a holiday gift for you. Be sure to gift another Anon in return so we can spread the cheer far and wide.
Please check the Pastebin to learn how to get your wishlist code, add a shipping address, the benefits of using AmazonSmile, and all other information.
Last year we had 169 gifted anons, some more than once.
Ungifted lists:
pastebin.com/GiSViFxH
All lists:
pastebin.com/9WnLPeVr
To get your wishlist code, open your wishlist on Amazon, then copy the 11 digit number from the link. It will look like this:
amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/###########
We just need the ###########
Missing Address: When viewing your list, click the "…" in the upper right hand corner. From there click "Manage List" which will give you a few options including “Shipping Address”. While you’re here please check “Third party shipping agreement”. That will allow anons to buy you stuff that isn’t sold by amazon.
Please post when you buy something from a wishlist, either post the code again or link to their post of the code. Amazon has made it so we can't check to see what's been purchased.

Hints thus far:
-The number cypher reveals another, basic substitution puzzle.
-Someone correctly identified that the number cypher may relate to vectors and positions. The number before the decimal is related to vectors. The number after the decimal is related to letter position.

You have the quote, you have five "coordinates", four of which appear in the actual puzzle and you have the knowledge that the only difference between the letters Hank is dropping and the letters of the actual quote is a simple substitution cipher.
Assuming it's not a cipher using a Polybius Square but something like a shit cipher, with a bit of trial and error you can crack the simple cipher and figure out which "ciphered" letters go where within the coordinates, and then it's just a question of figuring out why.

The patron saint for December 14th is Saint John of the Cross, a Spanish friar from the Sixteenth century and, along with his BFF Saint Teresa of Avila, reformer of the Carmelite order and the creator of the Order of Discalced Carmelites. As a young lad he was trying to figure out which monastery to go to and it's then when he met his future bestie, Teresa, who convinced him that the current way the Carmelites are doing things is bullshit and they should bring back the old rules and stop wearing shoes. So they did, and over the years things started heating up in the Jesus fandom to the point where the non-reformed Carmelites actually kidnapped Johnny and kept him under lock and key for making them look bad. He escaped after eight months though, after prying the hinges off of his cell's doors. He later wrote to the pope, which authorized the separation the reformed Carmies from the reform-resistant. All the while he had enough big dick energy to become one of Spain's most greatest writers, as well as a Doctor of the Church for his exploration of Christian Mysticism. No wonder then that he's also a patron saint of mystical theology and Spanish poets.

I tried doing the same with lower-case only, with similar results. I did get an orc (or rather, an ork) and an elf out of it though, so that's something.
I tried checking if there's a hidden message if you delete the all words without any capital letters in it, or if you delete the ones with them, none gave me anything.
Then I combined the two methods, taking only the words with the capital letters, and then deleting the capital letters themselves. No results here, either.

Just had some good new locally. My town is finally working on a drunk tank. That should make it so the ER won't be the only place the cops drop drunks off at. Sure they haven't started the construction but next year some time, my job will get easier.

The police and the local jail don't have any medical facilities/professionals on site so they can't determine if the person has alcohol poisoning or just needs to sleep it off. (Not that that matters too much the few times I've seen people that actually needed medical attention due to drinking they were brought up by friends not police or ambulance)
And Two. The police don't want to deal with the paperwork to jail them for the night. Doesn't matter if they were drunk driving or urinating in the street. They get dropped off at the ER and maybe have a ticket left for them, when they leave the hospital they do so free people.

Amazon can't set specific couriers, sadly that part of the system is automatic, but it's likely to be different if you had standard shipping before and they actually give you upgraded shipping to get there before Christmas.
I hope it works out for ya, hell if you can find one that is both shipped and sold by Amazon they should be able to mod the price to match the other seller and upgrade shipping for the hassle.

With time, she's been getting more and more into social work, until the 1836 epidemic of cholera, where she looking after the sick. 15/15 This story is a classic example of a lot of the tropes that were used in Super Family stories since the GA and became basic story elements in comics (not just superhero comics) and numerous other stories for years - such as the damsel in distress (which was repeated in the Fleischer animated theatrical trailers, the radio show, and the popular tv series) but also that a 'girl reporter' would be adventurous and ballsy. And that Superman would always be there to save her and save the day. Morality and encouragement to good behavior (and this was before this was a forced element from the Comics Code) was also very prevalent in many of the early Super Family stories, as this one where not only do the bad guys convert, but there's a lesson for the young lad. Remember, no one wants to be on the receiving end of a disappointed look from Superman.

Jerry and Joe were both science fiction fans. They started with a fan zine and an original story they pitched, which had a different form to the Superman we know from Action Comics, but which is what some people claim is the earliest genesis of Clark Kent/Kal-El was far more science based and actually a bit more in line with the Make Mine Marble method of a radioactive/cosmic/bathing in chemical waste kinda origin for a caped crusader.
There are several interesting articles about 'why' - this is one such example:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/2628733/The-tragic-real-story-behind-Supermans-birth.html but I wouldn't want to ascribe thoughts to Jerry and Joe beyond things they said, and so I would leave that they were fans writing (and drawing) about the kinds of things they wanted to read. They created an entire type of visual genre story-telling - that wasn't either as popular or as culturally relevant before 1938, that's now the most successful of it's type.

Ok everyone. What is the strangest, or worst, Christmas gift you've ever received? Or non Christmas gift? For me, Christmas gift would be some clothes from my grandmother when I was 16. My mother had told her that I had had a growth spurt so Gma sent some 58" x 36" pants, with elastic to make them bigger. I was wearing 38" at the time. Same grandma for my birthday around that time sent me a red wagon. Pic related... I think it got used to move firewood.

As for gift, I dunno. I don't remember anything standing out as bad. I used to get a lot of those commemorative coin sets from my aunt and uncle as a kid, didn't really appreciate those until later in life. Now I'm glad to have them.

The patron Saint for December 16th is Saint Adelaide of Italy (also of Burgundy), the first Holy Roman Empress after the title of the emperor was taken by the King of Germany. Her life was tumultuous to say the least, gaining and losing influence at the drop of a hat - after a little tweaking for dramatic effect, you could make a soap opera out of it, by which I mean George Frideric Handel already did, in the form of his opera, Lotario. I could write it all out but then half of this post would be weird proper names. She retired from active political carrier after her grandson, Otto III, came of age and became Holy Roman Emperor, and retired to a nunnery she founded to just chill out there. She was a devout Christian, vitally interested in converting the Slavic people next door and hoped to live until the year 1000, where she hoped to bear witness to the Second Coming of Christ - spoiler, that didn't happen, and she died only a little over two weeks before, on December 16th 999. At least she got trips. She is also a patron saint of basically everything she herself was or had throughout her years: princesses, brides, widows, abuse victims, prisoners, exiles, second marriages, empresses, parents of large families, step-parents and in-law problems. Just to give you a sneak peek into her life.

(Catholics just like Colbert's excuse) , by the time I was a kid and ready for toys, I didn't have to share and my older brothers have too much of an age gap, they wanted leather boots and records or cars while I still wanted hot wheels and comics books.
So the strangest would have to be some warm weather stuff from some European relatives visiting us for the first time, because we were in a very Mediterranean temperate climate where it never even snowed, so mittens and a jacket to go with them was something I could never wear. The following year, my mother donated them by mail to a midwest church group.
